Canal based rental 90mins £24ppph
In a nutshell, we loved the experience. As a guide, it took us around 2 hours to cycle a distance of around 9 miles on the canal (Wester Hailes to Ratho and back). The Akwakats are easy to manoeuvre once you get used to the fact that you are floating on water - not riding on tarmac! In terms of effort, you will find that the water below you does create some resistance but not to the point that it's difficult to ride.
Another thing to mention is that you don't need to be able to ride a bike to ride an Akwakat (or a Shuttle Bike). The pontoons act like great chunky stabilisers so balance for non-bike-riders is not really an issue.
If you don't think this is challenging enough for you, you could always try making one!! Posted 15th April by Mark McConway
